The weather is getting a bit nicer, the trees are greening up, flowers are in bloom.  What a great time to be in the park and helping us care for and maintain it.  We welcome our friends from Hospira Worldwide who will join us for our work day.  Meet on the traffic circle adjacent to the Cyclorama.

Join the Conservancy and the Georgia Native Plant Society for a safari in the woods of suburban Atlanta as we collect and save native plants from sites where construction is imminent.  Learn to identify and save Cinnamon and Christmas Fern, Trillium, Jack-In-The-Pulpit, Crane Fly Lily, Native Azalea, Rue Anemonie, Green & Gold, Climbing Hydrangea, Rattlesnake Plantain, Wild Ginger, Wild Geranium, Solomon Seal, Blood Root, May Apple and more.  We will relocate plants to L.P. Grant Park where they can live long and relatively undisturbed lives.  Pre-registration is required due to a limited number of avaiable slots.  Volunteers will meet on the traffic circle adjacent to the Atlanta Cyclorama (in Grant Park) to car pool to the site.  We will leave no later than 8:30 a.m. to reach the site by 9:00.  Register at

Keep an eye on the dog.  The Mother Mulchers will be loose in the park, mulching everything in sight.  We will mulch around trees, mulch planting beds, mulch severely compacted/heavy use areas, mulch in our sleep!  Why mulch?  Mulching helps control weeds (no toxic herbicides needed), retain soil moisture and moderate soil temperatures (protecting trees from being damaged by drought), provide nutrients and aesthetics, and protect tree trunks from weed eater/lawn mower encounters.  We will also install native plants rescued on Friday (4/17), work on removing invasive plant species and more.

Pre-registration is strongly recommended to allow us to plan for tools and equipment.  We start at 9:00 a.m. Meet on the traffic circle adjacent to the Atlanta Cyclorama.
