The Conservancy is proud to be selected to partner with EarthShare of Georgia in its' annual Corporate Green Challenge on Saturday, April 17, 2010.  More than 250 employees/volunteers from Stanley Beaman & Sears, Georgia Power, Coca Cola Enterprises and The Coca-Cola Company will gather in the park for a earth service day and help care for and maintain Atlanta's oldest public park.

What activities are planned?  Well, there will be a whole lot of mulching going on.  Each year Grant Park hosts more than two million visitors.  The impact of 4,000,000+ feet is huge.  Soil compaction and erosion are visible throughout.  Mulch is important to the mitigation/reduction of both compaction and loss of top soil.  Work projects include mulching planting beds along a stone pathway, mulching a heavily eroded area around the children's playground, fluffing the mulch on the children's playground, weeding and mulching the bog garden and surrounding area and weeding/cleaning a native shade garden (this activity need plant/garden savy experience workers) and Constitution Spring area.

What to wear:  dress for the weather.  April weather can be rather fickle - cool to cold or warm to hot.  Please, no open toed shoes, sandals, etc.  A hat is suggested.

What to bring:  sun screen, snack, insect repelent  (work tools are provided)

Can I bring the kids?:  Yes.  Close supervision is important.  We will be working with sharp tools and safety is a primary concern.  For smaller children, we encourage a visit to our playground, a walk through the park, etc.

What happens if:  As stated above, April weather can be fickle.  Work days generally proceed rain or shine.  However, we do not work in driving rain or electrical storms.  We will monitor the weather in advance and post any advisory to this website.  Also keep in mind, if it is raining in Marietta, it may not be raining in Grant Park.

How to get to the park:  Grant Park is located in southeast Atlanta about 1 mile from the Georgia State Capital, one mile east of Turner Field and about 1/2 mile from the King Marta rail station.  There is ample parking.  The closest parking to our staging area is on the Boulevard (east side) of the park.  Exit 59A off of Interstate 20 is the Boulevard exit. http://www.gpconservancy.org/node/53/edit
